Explore the art of dancing with a living partner.

This specialized Zoom workshop introduces dancers to the foundations of working with snakes in performance—from developing trust and awareness to exploring movement, improvisation, and physical conditioning.​

We’ll cover:

• Selecting and caring for snakes suitable for performance

• Developing trust, awareness, and communication

• Strength and flexibility conditioning for the dancer

• Improvisation and movement practices with a snake

• Developing a shared movement vocabulary between dancer and animal

A snake is not a prop.

This workshop is not about making a snake follow choreography. Instead, we learn to observe, listen, and respond to another living body—and to allow that relationship to influence our own movement.

The result is a very different approach to performance: one based on awareness, adaptability, and partnership.

No snake? You can still participate.

Participants with snakes may incorporate their own animals into the exercises. Live snakes will also be featured in demonstrations. A snake is not required to participate.  If you’re not currently working with one, I’ll provide suggestions for substitute props that allow you to practice the physical and movement principles of the work.

Participants who do have a snake will be able to work with their own animal from the familiar environment of home. Live snakes will also be incorporated into demonstrations and exercises throughout the workshop.

​​

No previous experience working with snakes is required. What matters most is curiosity, respect for the animal, and a willingness to explore.

​

To create an intimate learning environment with individualized guidance, enrollment is limited to 6 participants.
